Sometimes, you just don't have the time to wade through a long blog post about whatever it is the blogger thinks is important. You just came to find the answer to your question:
How do you make guidelines?
To make guidelines click and drag starting from the rulers on the side of your work space. For vertical guidelines use the right ruler and to make horizontal lines use the ruler at the top of your work space.
To move the guidelines click and drag the guideline as you move it to the new location.
To delete the guidelines click on the guideline and use the delete key.
